Caesars Southern Indiana history

In 1994, following the legalization of riverboat casinos in Indiana, a division of Caesars teamed up with Riverboat Development Incorporated to apply for one of the initial casino licenses. They were granted the license in 1996. They selected a location on the Ohio River in the state’s southern region, near Louisville. The casino, named Caesars Indiana, was inaugurated on Nov. 20, 1998.

The property has changed hands many times over the years, initially owned by Caesars World before being managed by Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Park Place Entertainment. In 2002, the state permitted riverboat casinos to permanently dock, and Caesars Indiana took advantage of this rule, apart from conducting short cruises once a year. The property underwent a rebranding in 2008 and was renamed as Horseshoe Southern Indiana.

In 2015, a significant renovation commenced to establish a land-based casino and expand the hotel. The hotel construction was finished in 2017. On December 9, 2019, the land-based casino was inaugurated, and the old riverboat was finally retired. Following the opening, the property was renamed as Caesars Southern Indiana.
