Winning Powerball Ticket From Northwest Indiana Expires Soon

Posted on July 20, 2022

One lucky Hoosier still needs to claim their Powerball lottery prize. The $50,000 ticket will expire on Aug. 11 if the winner doesn’t step forward.

The clock is ticking for this set of Powerball winnings, so check your tickets if you’ve been purchasing them in Northwest Indiana.

Winning Powerball ticket expiring

The Hoosier Lottery is still searching for the owner of the winning ticket from Feb. 12’s Powerball drawing.

Although it isn’t for the full Powerball jackpot amount, a $50,000 prize is still nothing to sneeze at.

The winner bought their ticket at a Speedway in Merrillville, Indiana. That location is at 98 W. 73rd Street.

The lucky ticket owner managed to match four of the five white balls, plus the red Powerball number for the drawing. The numbers for that Feb. 12 drawing were 8, 10, 21, 41 and 62. The Powerball number was 7.

Indiana lottery prizes have to be claimed within 180 days, or else the money enters the lottery’s prize fund to help pay future jackpot winners.

Since Feb. 12’s drawing made the ticket a winner, you still have until Aug. 11 to claim the lottery prize.

Hoosier Lottery popularity

Lottery games are some of the most popular gambling options in the state since nearly every corner of Indiana has access to them.

The Hoosier Lottery brought in about $340 million worth of profits during its most recent budget year, which ended on June 30. That’s with all operating costs and jackpots, like Merrillville’s unclaimed Powerball ticket, deducted from the numbers.

That haul was a small decrease from the previous year’s record-breaking $375 million mark, but still an incredible year for sales overall.

Nationwide games like the Powerball were certainly big contributors to those numbers.

Indiana has more Powerball jackpot winners than any other state, so there’s no doubt that Hoosiers love playing the game. Indiana’s 39 winners give the state a nice lead over second-place Missouri’s 31 winners.
