Later this month, construction begins on new Terre Haute Casino.
Construction on the Queen of Terre Haute casino by Churchill Downs will commence soon. The company has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for the project on June 21 at 11 a.m.
If all goes as planned, by late 2025, the final building will be operational. This is exciting news for gambling enthusiasts who enjoy frequenting casinos in Indiana.
Construction Queen of Terre Haute
Churchill originally intended to construct the Terre Haute casino on the west side of the city, with an aim to start the project by the end of May.
Nonetheless, the company ultimately relocated the plans to the other side of the city.
The switch-up necessitated special authorization because the new site is close to an airport. This procedure ate into the initial timeline, causing the project to be postponed by approximately one month.
The new location of the casino is 4442 East Margaret Drive, Terre Haute. For those unfamiliar with the area, this is situated on the east side of the city.
This action positions the casino nearer to Interstate 70, potentially making it more accessible for gamblers once the construction is completed.
It’s been a long journey to reach this point.
The process of introducing a new casino to Terre Haute has not been straightforward.
The inception of the casino initiative in Vigo County dates back to 2019. It has been an incredibly tumultuous journey since then.
At the time, Hard Rock had an agreement to construct a new casino in Gary. The company had plans to establish a sister property for that building in Terre Haute.
Nevertheless, the casino experienced numerous delays due to a political scandal involving money laundering related to the project. The building was initially expected to be operational by this time. It was only recently that the remaining issues from the scandal started to be resolved.
Hard Rock’s loss of the casino rights marked the end of an era, paving the way for a massive application process. After a thorough selection, Churchill Downs emerged as the victorious bidder.
The process has been complex, but the dust is finally beginning to settle. Terre Haute residents are finally finding some much-needed closure on the project now that construction on the casino is actually underway.
Hopefully, Queen of Terre Haute can be enjoyed by gamblers without any issues in 2025.
