Indianapolis will not be hosting the entire March Madness tournament this season. Despite that, there will still be some games taking place in Indy this year.

Hoosiers have a few different options for March Madness games in Indianapolis this year.

Fans can catch part of the first and second rounds of the 2022 tournament in Indy. Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the home of the Indiana Pacers, is hosting the action.

Those games will be taking place on March 17 and March 19.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to know which teams will be hitting the hardwood for those games.

Selection Sunday will play a big role in the potential matchups, so college basketball fans around the country will be keeping an eye on the March 13 bracket reveal.

Indiana loves to host events

It’s no secret that Hoosiers love basketball, and that love makes Indy the perfect location to host March Madness games.

Since Indianapolis is in the heart of basketball country, the city is no stranger to being front and center during the NCAA Tournament action.

Stadiums in the Indianapolis area have hosted Final Four games since 1980. A handful of championship games have taken place in the city as well.

Plus, Indianapolis hosted the entire March Madness tournament in 2021. That’s a clear demonstration of the trust that the college basketball community has in the city.

Indy has a great track record with large sporting events. In other words, the city will likely be hosting more NCAA Tournament games in the future.

The Men’s Final Four will be returning to Indianapolis in 2026, so Hoosiers will have to wait a few years for the later rounds.

2021 tournament in Indy

The pandemic created a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Hoosiers last year. The NCAA Tournament doesn’t typically take place all in one city.

For example, 14 different cities are hosting March Madness games this season. The games in Indianapolis are only a small portion of the overall action.

It’s very unlikely that we’ll ever see another tournament like 2021’s. Indianapolis certainly had its time in the spotlight with teams from all over the country flooding in for the games.

Arenas like Gainbridge and Lucas Oil Stadium hosted most of the action last year. A few games even spilled over to West Lafayette and Bloomington.

2022 might not be the same all-in-one experience for basketball fans, but at least there are still games taking place in Indianapolis this year.

It won’t be long before Indy has more games to host in the future, so fans likely won’t be waiting for long.
