After weeks of debate, fans will be able to attend March Madness games this year.

The NCAA was hoping to have an attendance decision ready by the end of January, but ultimately ended up pushing things back a few weeks.

Stadiums throughout Indiana can fill up to 25% capacity for the games this year. With the entire tournament taking place in Indiana, basketball fans in the state have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

March Madness in Indiana

Indianapolis is no stranger to hosting March Madness games.

Lucas Oil Stadium frequently houses tournament games, including previous championships, Final Fours and earlier round matchups.

This season, the entire tournament is happening in Indiana. Indianapolis is doing the bulk of the heavy lifting, with a few games taking place in Bloomington and West Lafayette.

Lucas Oil, Bankers Life Fieldhouse and Hinkle Fieldhouse will hold the games in Indianapolis.

Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and Mackey Arena will handle the on-campus games at IU and Purdue.

With so many games taking place throughout the state, Hoosiers will have more basketball options this spring than ever before. That could make it hard to find tickets for the games.

How to buy tickets for the tournament

March Madness tickets could be hard to come by since arenas can only hold 25% of their normal capacity.

College basketball fans normally travel from all over the country to watch their favorite teams play in the tournament. The overall number of travelers might drop this year due to the pandemic, but the diehard fans will still be on the move.

Hoosiers will have be ready to snag tickets right after they go on sale if they want to attend the games.

Right now, the NCAA is letting fans sign up to receive ticket sales notifications for each round of the tournament.

The specific number of fans at each game will vary since the state’s arenas are different sizes. Lucas Oil at 25% capacity will have a lot more fans than 25% of Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Betting on March Madness

Since the NCAA canceled the 2020 tournament because of COVID-19, this year’s March Madness will be the first one that you can bet on in Indiana.

Hoosiers love betting on basketball, and betting on March Madness is about to take that to another level.

Indiana gamblers wagered over $133 million on the sport during January alone. Overall, the state’s basketball numbers have increased by over 400% since November.

March Madness is one of the biggest sports betting events of the year, and Indiana is looking to cash in. The entire tournament happening within the state will likely drive those numbers up even higher.

Travelers from other states could also play a big role.

Many of the best college basketball teams are from states that don’t have legal sports betting yet.
