Four Winds Casino in South Bend now has a sportsbook up and running at the property.

This is big news for Indiana’s only tribal casino, which has been working to integrate Class III Gaming this year.

No online betting for Four Winds Sportsbook

Four Winds Casino has been working on adding Class III Gaming amenities since Gov. Holcomb ratified the casino’s tribal-state compact earlier this year.

That gave Four Winds to green light to start including games like blackjack and slot machines at the building.

It also opened the door for sports betting at the property. Four Winds finally has its retail sportsbook set up, so gamblers can either place their bets at the sportsbook counter or by using one of the casino’s six kiosks.

However, Four Winds won’t be able to get a piece of the Indiana online sports betting pie.

Online sportsbooks have to partner up with a retail casino before they can start taking bets in Indiana.

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians has its compact with the state, but that deal only allows for sports betting to take place on the physical property in South Bend.

In other words, even if the casino partnered up with an online sportsbook, gamblers would only be able to use the betting app while they’re on the casino grounds.

That makes the online angle a redundant one for Four Winds in South Bend. The casino could potentially add online betting in the future, but it would take some extra negotiating with the state to make it worthwhile.

Thankfully for Hoosiers, there are still plenty of other legal Indiana sportsbooks to pick from.

Four Winds Casino adds slot machines, blackjack

Gamblers in South Bend have probably noticed the construction taking place at Four Winds this year.

The Tribe started working on the casino almost immediately after it secured its deal with the state of Indiana.

Building a brand-new sportsbook was a part of that expansion, but so was adding in all sorts of games that the casino had been missing.

Originally, Four Winds could only have games where visitors played against each other, rather than the house. That basically left gamblers with poker and electronic bingo to pick from.

All of that changed once the Tribe had its Class III Gaming license in hand.

Four Winds debuted its table games back in August. Blackjack, roulette, slot machines and other classic games are now available.

The changes aren’t stopping there either. The Tribe is still expanding the property, with construction ongoing until 2025.

Four Winds will be a full-fledged competitor with the rest of the casinos in Indiana once the expansion finally wraps up.
