The college football season and the majority of NFL playoff games concluded in January, making the Super Bowl the sole significant wagering event for the sport in February.
Despite this, last month saw Hoosiers placing $12 million bets on football. Without the surge from the Super Bowl, the state’s handle would have seen less than a 3% growth from January to February.
The increase in the state’s revenue can be partially attributed to football. However, basketball, which was already Indiana’s most favored sport for betting, continues to see a rise in its handle on a month-to-month basis.
Hoosiers placed nearly $60 million worth of bets on basketball in January. This figure dramatically increased to over $90 million in February.
Betting activity in February generated more than $11 million in revenue for sportsbooks in Indiana, and contributed over $1 million in taxes to the state.

Hollywood Lawrenceburg took second place for February, raking in nearly $7 million. Similar to Horseshoe Hammond, its proximity to a major city, Cincinnati, significantly boosts its performance.
Ameristar East Chicago completes the top three for retail betting in Indiana in February.
Despite its online partnership with DraftKings enhancing the casino’s overall figures, Ameristar’s retail handle is solely generated from in-person bets at the casino. Nonetheless, Ameristar managed to rake in nearly $6 million from these in-person bets, which is a considerable sum.
Basketball will be the main focus in March.
