It’s official: Carson Wentz is the new quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts.

Indy went bargain hunting after Philip Rivers announced his retirement from the NFL.

The Philadelphia Eagles were happy to offload Wentz after a putrid showing from him last season. The Colts could have gone after Deshaun Watson instead, but the young star has a much higher price tag.

You couldn’t bet on either quarterback’s future in Indiana before the trade, but at least futures odds are still on the board for the Colts.

Wentz boosts Indy’s Super Bowl odds

Even with Wentz on the roster, the Colts might not have their future at the quarterback spot figured out.

Wentz is coming off of his worst season as a pro. The quarterback racked up 15 interceptions last year to go along with a career-low completion rate of 57%.

Worst case scenario, he puts up another sub-par season. Best case scenario, he returns to form and the Colts are serious Super Bowl contenders.

Despite all of the uncertainty surrounding Wentz, trading for him actually increased Indy’s Super Bowl odds.

The Colts have the 10th-best odds over at DraftKings. Expect the team to start shooting up this list if Wentz is performing well next season.

 

The Colts were sitting at +2,500 before the Wentz trade.

That small odds boost is because the Colts didn’t have a quarterback at all before the deal. The team had to grab someone to fill the spot with Rivers retiring and Jacoby Brissett becoming a free agent.

After all, even a potentially bad quarterback like Wentz is better than no quarterback at all.

Indianapolis Colts AFC betting odds

Winning the Super Bowl would be great, but the Colts have to make it out of the AFC first.

No surprise here, but the reigning conference champ Chiefs are the favorites to come out on top again next season. The Colts might not be the favorites, but they did crack the top five.

 

Things are looking a little more optimistic for the Colts when it comes to the AFC South race.

The Tennessee Titans narrowly elbowed their way past the Colts for division control last season. This time around, DraftKings is expecting Indy to come out on top.

The Wentz trade didn’t boost the team’s odds, but the Colts are still the favorites to win the AFC South crown.

 

So even if the Colts don’t make a serious run at a Super Bowl title, the team is at least expected to lead its division. Until next season starts, fans will be hoping that Wentz can take the Colts to another level.
