Head Down Under For Post-Super-Bowl Betting Action During Australian Open
The Australian Open is back and tennis fans are gearing up for the action.
The opening rounds of the tournament start on Monday, Feb. 8.
Australian Open deals with COVID
Since the 2020 edition of the tournament took place in January, it managed to escape the COVID-related changes that most of the sport’s big events had to deal with.
This year, that obviously wasn’t a possibility.
Some big names won’t be attending the first Grand Slam of the year, and the players that did make the trip to Melbourne had to quarantine in their hotel rooms for 14 days.
At least jumping through those hoops will be worth it in the end.
Thanks to Australia’s handling of the virus, the tournament will be able to admit 30,000 spectators during the first eight days of play. That number will change to 25,000 starting in the quarter finals.
Fans will make for a live sports experience that feels normal, making the Australian Open a must-watch for tennis fans.
Australian Open Men’s betting odds
No surprise here, but Novak Djokovic is the favorite on the men’s side of the bracket.
Djokovic is going for the three-peat at the tournament after coming out on top in both 2019 and 2020. If he’s successful, he’d be the first player to win three-straight Australian opens since… himself, from 2011-2013.
Here’s a look at the betting odds for some of the top men’s singles players from DraftKings:
- Novak Djokovic: +140
- Daniil Medvedev: +475
- Rafael Nadal: +550
- Dominic Thiem: +550
- Stefanos Tsitsipas: +1,700
Australian Open Women’s betting odds
Heading over to the women’s singles gambling odds, Naomi Osaka is the favorite. Osaka last won the tournament back in 2019.
Reigning champion Sofia Kenin is a few spots back on the odds list. She’s currently a +1,500 underdog over at DraftKings.
Fan-favorite Serena Williams is right in the middle of Osaka and Kenin when it comes to the betting odds. The seven-time Australian Open champ is currently +900 to come out on top.
The betting odds for the top players are incredibly close for the women’s side of the tournament.
- Naomi Osaka: +550
- Ashleigh Barty: +900
- Aryna Sabalenka: +900
- Serena Williams: +900
- Simona Halep: +1,100
Australian Open props and promos
As of right now, there aren’t any promotions available for the Australian Open.
That will change next week, since Indiana’s sportsbooks are preoccupied with Super Bowl deals for now. At the very least, some will become available once the later stages of the tournament begin.
One sportsbook to keep an eye on would be PointsBet. The company is based in Australia, so it may be more likely to offer gambling deals for the Australian Open.
Promos might be on hold for now, but prop betting is already available over at DraftKings.
For example, you can bet on whether or not any match in the tournament will last longer than five hours. No is the -500 favorite with yes as the +350 underdog.
Will all of the top men’s seeds reach the quarterfinals? You can bet on it at DraftKings.
If tennis prop betting is right in your wheelhouse, then check out your favorite sportsbook when the tournament starts for the full list of betting options.
