Colts Odds Take A Dip After Carson Wentz Surgery Announcement

Colts Odds Take A Dip After Carson Wentz Surgery Announcement

Posted on August 2, 2021

Carson Wentz will be out of commission for up to 12 weeks. The Colts quarterback is having surgery to remove a bone in his injured foot.

The team is optimistic that Wentz won’t need that full 12-week period to return to the field.

Wentz could return in time for Week 9

Wentz originally hurt his foot last week during practice. He announced that he was going to try to rehab the injury before going the surgery route.

Things were looking bad, and the team was hoping for some good news that never came.

Now that Wentz is having surgery, he’ll likely miss at least the first few weeks of the NFL regular season.

The Colts could be without their go-to guy for over half of the football calendar.

That 12-week timeline puts a potential Wentz return around Week 9’s matchup against the Jets. The team is hopeful for a quick recovery, so that’s looking like a worst-case scenario for Indianapolis.

Jacob Eason has been holding down the starter spot in training camp, making him the presumed starter for Week 1 so far. That will likely remain the case unless the Colts make a trade to bring in some fresh talent.

The Wentz news is brutal for fans, but even worse for gamblers that already placed a bet on the Colts.

With Indy’s quarterback out for the foreseeable future, Indianapolis Colts betting odds are about to tank.

Colts betting odds prep for nosedive

The Colts are about to take a big hit in the odds department.

So far, most of Indiana’s online sportsbooks have adjusted the team’s odds.

Right now, the majority of sportsbooks have Indy in the +3,000 to +4,000 range to win the Super Bowl.

Here’s a quick look at the live odds for the team:

BetMGM Indiana currently has the team listed at +3,000.

Last week, the sportsbook gave PlayIndiana a glimpse at how the team’s odds could change due to a long Wentz absence. BetMGM initially projected that Indy’s Super Bowl odds would shoot to around +3,500, so be on the lookout for that type of change in the near future at the sportsbook.

In terms of AFC South odds, expect to see a similar dip as sportsbooks adjust.

DraftKings IN told PlayIndiana to expect a shift somewhere past +130. That would make the Tennessee Titans the odds-on favorite for the division.

AFC South betting is currently off the board at DraftKings, so the sportsbook is likely in the middle of making that change.

Keep an eye on the live odds below to catch when sportsbooks update those lines.

This could be a unique opportunity for Colts bettors. Every sportsbook might have slightly different odds, so you can shop around a bit to find a price that works best for you.
