College Football Week 2: Indiana Sportsbooks Favor Boilermakers To Bounce Back, Hoosiers To Roll

After a disappointing start to the season for Purdue and an impressive first look at Indiana, Indiana college football odds predict good things for both the Boilermakers and Hoosiers in their second games of the season.

As Indiana and Purdue play their home openers on Saturday, Sept. 7, both teams are heavily favored. While that means few opportunities for Indiana sports betting on the Boilermakers and Hoosiers, it will provide opportunities for bettors to learn more about both teams.

How Week 1 games affected Indiana college football odds

We learned about the Hoosiers in Week 1. Specifically, redshirt freshman quarterback Michael Penix Jr. might be the best talent Indiana has had at the position since Antwaan Randle El. Penix is the first Hoosier signal-caller since Randle El to throw for over 300 yards in his first collegiate start.

Penix finished with 393 total yards, 67 of which came on the ground. He earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, completing 24 of 40 passes.

While it’s important to take the caliber of the opponent into consideration, the same can be said for Purdue’s season-opening loss.

Nevada certainly isn’t a bottom-feeder in the Mountain West conference, but the Wolfpack aren’t the conference’s elite either. Losing to any Power 5 team, even on the road on a last-second 54-yard field goal, can’t be considered meaningless.

Because of that, Purdue needs not just to win but win big against another Power 5 opponent in Vanderbilt this Saturday. Sportsbooks have the Commodores as one of the longest shots to win the SEC this year.

Unfortunately for the Boilermakers, the loss to Nevada looks terrible right now and based on the oddsmakers, expect a competitive game.

Breaking down the Indiana college football odds for Week 2

Most of the action at sportsbooks at Indiana casinos this week revolves around Purdue. Indiana faces an FCS opponent, and Notre Dame is idle.

FanDuel and PointsBet have identical lines on the Hoosiers against Eastern Illinois. Both books have Indiana as a 35.5-point favorite. The odds on the moneyline for that bet are -110.

The action on the Boilermakers this week isn’t any more attractive. The consensus in Vegas has Purdue a seven-point favorite with an identical -110 moneyline.

Books in and closer to the Hoosier State agree. SugarHouse is the only book where a spread other than seven points can be found.

It’s equally difficult to find any action on Purdue that would pay off for Indiana sports bettors.

Nothing but negative odds all around for Purdue

The only action that’s tempting at all for the Boilermakers game this week, other than Vanderbilt pulling off the upset, of course, is on the point total.

SugarHouse has parlay bets available on Purdue and either the over or the under. The line gets as good as +265 there.

It also offers straight bets on the total, with the best being under 48.5 at +185. Other than that, there aren’t any favorable odds to be found betting on the Boilermakers.

There aren’t any new additions or subtractions to the injury reports for either Indiana or Purdue. It’s unlikely these odds will change before game time barring something unexpected in practice. Bettors should follow the Fighting Irish’s example this week and enjoy the bye.
