PointsBet Sportsbook Targets Super Bowl Sunday for Indiana Launch
Should the Indianapolis Colts make it to Super Bowl LIV, a new betting option may be available for Indiana residents and visitors. The PointsBet Indiana sportsbook is considering launching in time for this unofficial holiday, allowing wagers to be placed on their home-state team.
While the decision for the plans to materialize lies with the Indiana Gaming Commission, PointsBet stands a good chance. Its expansion in New Jersey and Indiana’s openness to multiple operators should play to its advantage.
Information on the PointsBet Indiana sportsbook strategies
At the recent annual meeting, PointsBet CEO Sam Swanell clarified his company’s intentions. He revealed that Super Bowl Sunday is the projected date for PointsBet to commence operations in the Hoosier State.
PointsBet likely selected the target date for the mobile sportsbook to participate in legal Indiana online sports betting for several reasons. Although it is feasible that it could start before Feb. 2, it is unlikely to happen much sooner.
One reason is that the Super Bowl is one of the largest sporting events in North America. This could present an ideal chance to promote the launch of the sportsbook.
Additionally, PointsBet may still require time to customize its product. While the New Jersey mobile sportsbook is already operational, Indiana has distinct technical specifications.
Ultimately, the IGC may require time to review PointsBet to ensure it complies with all the state’s regulations. The deadline of Feb. 2 should provide sufficient time for this review.
The company’s past achievements in New Jersey could be beneficial for a punctual launch. The IGC is likely to approve a license for Indiana sportsbook operators who have demonstrated successful track records.
The increasing market share of PointsBet in the Garden State
Swanell revealed at the same meeting that his company, PointsBet, has significantly increased its presence in New Jersey’s mobile sports betting market. The company’s total handle in the state was up to 5.4% in June, more than double its share in February.
The CEO of the company attributes the growth to marketing campaigns and stated that the expansion is not just restricted to the Garden State. From June 2018 to the same month this year, PointsBet’s worldwide customer base has seen an increase of 254%.
Swanell indicates that their marketing campaigns appear to be making headway in Indiana, also known as the Hoosier State. According to his company’s research, 12% of male residents in Indiana who are 21 years or older are familiar with the brand name.
The market is primed for PointsBet’s entry and the operator is well-positioned to make the leap. More specifically, the route to obtaining a license is unobstructed for them.
PointsBet is given an entry avenue by Penn National.
Several months ago, Penn National struck a market access deal with several sportsbook operators, including PointsBet.
Indiana is one of the multiple states where Penn National operates; they own the Ameristar in East Chicago.
PointsBet, through that partnership, is on track to obtain an Indiana license. With all the necessary components in place, it appears to be only a matter of time.
Currently, there are just three other mobile sportsbook operators in Indiana. It might remain the same when the app launches.
Should that occur, PointsBet could swiftly secure a substantial market share. The prevailing conditions indicate this would be a sensible wager.
