The March Madness action is over after a busy handful of weeks in Indiana.

March Madness helped the state rack up over $316 million worth of sports bets during March.

Things are quiet now with Baylor topping the podium as national champions.

It could be the perfect time to take a look at the way-too-early futures odds for the next college hoops season.

These odds are likely to swing wildly between now and next fall, but it’s still worth glancing at how sportsbooks are valuing Indiana’s teams this far out.

Purdue University finished the year with a solid 18-10 record.

That was enough to land the Boilermakers a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Purdue was the only team from Indiana to make the March Madness cut, which is disappointing considering that the entire tournament took place in Indiana.

Unfortunately, the Boilermakers lost their very first tournament matchup against North Texas.

The quick exit has the team looking towards the future.

Purdue was the youngest March Madness team this season, and they’re expecting to return the majority of their core players.

So in a nutshell, a new and improved version of this year’s squad will be back with a little more experience under their belts.

Indiana’s online betting apps love Purdue’s chances for next season.

Mike Woodson boosts IU’s odds for 2022 March Madness tourney

The Indiana Hoosiers haven’t made a March Madness tournament since 2016.

An entire set of undergrad students have come and gone since the team’s last postseason appearance.

Those results, or lack thereof, booted Head Coach Archie Miller out the door in favor of former player Mike Woodson.

Before the school made its hiring decision, BetMGM told PlayIndiana that only one coach could boost the team’s odds significantly.

“Per our trading team, we will likely open Indiana in the +10,000 range to win the NCAA Tournament next year. The coach they hire won’t really change their odds unless it is a big name like Brad Stevens.”

IU is currently sitting at +3,500. That’s obviously a big shift from +10,000.

So what changed?

It wasn’t Woodson’s hiring that boosted the odds, but rather his recruiting during his first handful of weeks on the job.

Since taking the wheel for the Hoosiers a few weeks ago, Woodson has already accomplished a lot.

For starters, he’s convinced All-American Trayce Jackson-Davis to return next season. That’s great for IU fans hoping to see the team’s best player in uniform again.

Woodson also convinced four of the six players in the transfer portal to return to Bloomington next season.

Toss in adding Xavier Johnson from Pittsburgh to help at the guard spots, and Woodson has fundamentally changed the direction this team was heading in weeks ago.

All of that roster building led to that significant odds shift from +10,000 to +3,500.

Butler and Notre Dame longshot odds

Butler and Notre Dame found themselves in the same boat as IU for March Madness.

Both teams failed to make the NCAA Tournament after disappointing years.

The Fighting Irish finished the year 11-15, with the Bulldogs putting up a similar 10-15 season.

Butler is hoping for better luck next year since the team has four senior players returning for a fifth season with the program. The team will lean heavily on those experienced veterans.

All three of Notre Dame’s leading scorers are returning to South Bend next season for another run at things.

The Fighting Irish will be gunning for their first March Madness appearance since 2017.

Despite things looking up for both teams, Indiana’s sportsbooks don’t have much faith in the future of either squad.

PointsBet has both schools at +10,000 right now to win the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

There are 62 different teams with better odds than Butler and Notre Dame, so betting on either team is definitely a hail mary.

NCAA Basketball odds vary greatly

The odds for these teams are what they are for now, but that could easily change before the start of next season.

We’ve already seen a massive shift in IU’s odds over the last two weeks, and similar kinds of changes could come into play for the rest of Indiana’s teams.

There’s no definitive answer as to which teams should be where in the odds rankings. Even Indiana’s sportsbooks don’t agree.

IU is +3,500 at DraftKings but +8,000 over at PointsBet. Unibet has the Hoosiers at +6,600, while William Hill still has IU at +10,000.

The rest of Indiana’s teams have a lot more census between the state’s sportsbooks.
